Cross Country
The Tuesday before half term saw the annual running of the Bringsty Relays on Wimbledon Common, although this year the race was run over a new course due to the adverse conditions underfoot. In the overall team event, it was Rigaud’s (1:27:43) who took the title by some two and a half minutes, ahead of Busby’s (1:30:19) in second, with Dryden’s (1:31:38) in third. Rigaud’s also won both the Girls’ (ahead of Dryden’s and College) and Junior Boys’ (in front of Busby’s and Dryden’s) sections, whilst Purcell’s took the Senior Boys’ event, with Grant’s second and Busby’s third. Individually, Toby (MM, 6:02) ran the fastest time of the day, ahead of Grantites, Thomas (6:11) and Kit (6:24), and, in the Juniors, Kelvin (AHH, 6: 46) was quickest, just ahead of Alex (BB, 6:51). Bryony (BB, 7:49) recorded the fastest girls time, ahead of Isabella (DD, 8:35) and Sophie (WW, 9:13).
Netball
Tuesday saw also a Westminster team play two exciting and closely-contested Netball matches in the Sports Centre against sides from Francis Holland School. First up, the FHS A side were the opposition in a see-saw battle which finished with Westminster just coming up short by the closest possible margin in a 14-15 defeat. This was followed by a match against the FHS Development side where there was not much to choose between the sides once again. However, this time it was the Westminster team who came out on top by 19-13.
Football
Alas, the London Independent Schools’ Cup dream died for the 1st XI just before half term, as they went out of the competition at the quarter-final stage, away to Hampton School. Having taken the lead through Ben, AKA ‘Captain Marvel’ , Westminster were pegged back to 1-1 at the end of normal time. Each side scored again in extra-time to make it 2-2, and take the game to penalties. Unfortunately, the 1st XI couldn’t quite repeat the heroics of previous penalty shootouts earlier this season, as they lost out by 2-3.
