The Library

Our Library has over 20,000 books and a wide selection of newspapers, journals, DVDs, audiobooks and access to more than 25 subscription services in a variety of languages and on a range of topics.
Each of our resources is carefully selected to stimulate the scholastic requirements of the School community and to support intellectual enquiry, learning and thought. Regular promotional displays and reading lists also encourage a questioning, independent approach to learning. The Library supports recreational reading too, with a number of interesting fiction and non-fiction titles in our collection, as well as access to the school’s Digital Library where pupils can download books to their personal e-readers and other devices.
The Library is housed in a suite of historic rooms on the first floor of Ashburnham House. Day pupils and boarders alike can be found enjoying this beautiful facility throughout the school day and into the evenings, as it provides a quiet yet stimulating place to study and reflect.

Do not use slurs against disabled and unwell people to attack someone you disagree with. It says a lot about you when you do.
I’ll leave you all with this:
If disability is an insult, then what exactly do you think of disabled people?
As I’ve always said: of you want to test peoples commitment to a more just future, ask them what they think about disability.
You don’t have to follow people who tweet horrible things.
Someone is racist? Unfollow them.
Sexist? Unfollow them.
Homophobic? Unfollow them.
Transphobic? Unfollow them.
Fatphobic? Unfollow them.
You don’t owe them your attention. In fact, removing your attention is better.
This is a fantastic thread about questioning what you are told – even when it’s lovely – and finding out the truth. Sometimes the truth is lovelier, or more significant, and always you will learn from it.
That beekeeper heart honeycomb image. A thread.
This thread, re JKR and her recent comments, from another much-loved author, is affirming and beautiful and important. Listen to Tamora Pierce.
Regarding JKR’s statement: I do not think these things of you. I do not believe you are not who you are. I know you have fought a long, hard battle to become yourselves in the eyes of the world. In my eyes, you are heroic. #TransWomenareWomen #TransMenAreMen
This is an exceptionally good, clear, informative thread about the Colston statue
Why was #EdwardColston put up as a statue in Bristol in the first place, in 1895, over 170 years after he died? If they wanted a white businessman/philanthropist (and we’ll get onto his philanthropy later), there were many other candidates. Why a slave trader?
